WELLINGTON STUDIOS

Wellington Studios is a independent business founded in May 2018 by partners Sean McGrath and Felicity Faye

Back then, after spending many years feeling isolated in various dilapidated art studios, we started thinking about a new way to exist in the arts community. We wanted to create an affordable, high-quality art studio and co-working space that would foster collaboration and a sense of community, something we felt was lacking in the studios we’d been in before. Our aim was to take the best elements from both the arts and corporate worlds: offering affordable studio space without the grim surroundings.

When our last studio was booked for demolition (surprise, surprise, more luxury apartments!), we decided it was time to take our future into our own hands and put our money where our mouth was.

Thus, Wellington Studios was born out of those desires and experiences. We set up an independent art studio and event/workshop space in the creative hub of Wellington House, Ancoats. We transformed an old industrial unit into a creative workspace, complete with 12 studios and a meeting room.

By 2021, we expanded and built The Apex in an adjacent unit, which we converted into seven mezzanine studios and two ground-floor studios overlooking Ashton Canal.

​

Fast forward to 2025/26, and we’re excited to share that we’ve taken on a new unit, Heaton House, based in the characterful Moores Mill in Denton. We’re hard at work crafting 10 new studios and a stunning event space filled with Victorian charm.
